Shelley Luther, a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 62, shared updates on legislative efforts and state policy developments in a series of tweets posted on August 26, 2025.
In her first post of the day, Luther announced the filing of new legislation aimed at property tax reform. She wrote: “I just filed HB 299, the Property Appraisal Lock! Locks your home appraisal to your purchase price. I think all property tax should be eliminated, until then, we need measures to protect homeowners. No more taxing people out of their homes! To be taxed on an unrealized gain” (August 26, 2025). The proposed bill would lock a homeowner’s property appraisal value to its purchase price as a measure to limit increases in property taxes.
Later that day, Luther commented on recent legislation concerning foreign ownership in Texas. She stated: “Texas is NOT FOR SALE to our foreign adversaries. Proud to witness this bill signing with @GregAbbott_TX!” (August 26, 2025). The tweet was accompanied by mention of Texas Governor Greg Abbott and referenced participation in a bill-signing event.
In another post about legislative proceedings at the Texas Capitol, Luther provided an update from inside the venue ahead of a bill signing: “Sneak peek in the room before @GregAbbott_TX arrives to sign SB17!!” (August 26, 2025).
Luther began representing Texas House District 62 after being elected in 2025, succeeding Reggie Smith as state representative.
