Shelley Luther, a Republican elected to the Texas State House in 2025 to represent the state’s 62nd House district, posted a series of tweets on May 12, 2026, expressing gratitude and referencing her previous jailing.
In one tweet from May 12, Luther wrote “Thank you!!! https://t.co/8dxSvsPlvR”. Later that day, she commented on her prior incarceration by posting “??? And I was jailed for opening a salon? That tracks…. https://t.co/osMW9ZooZ7”. She followed up with another expression of appreciation: “Thank you! https://t.co/l82DzSodGy”.
Luther became widely known after being jailed in 2020 for defying state orders during the COVID-19 pandemic by reopening her Dallas salon. In 2025, she succeeded Reggie Smith as the representative for Texas’ 62nd House district.
