Grayson County has seen unemployment claims fall since Texas began its reopening process.
In total, Grayson County has seen more than 8,000 unemployment claims in March and that number dropped to 2,900 in April. In May, that total dropped to 200, according to Workforce Solutions Texoma Executive Director Janie Bates.
The number of available is also going up, Bates told KXII-TV. The number of jobs available in Sherman is about 930, up from 350 in April.
“We’re certainly seeing a decline in the number of people who are applying, so that’s a good thing,” Bates said. "It certainly indicates as the state opens up and our county opens up that people are going back to work."
Bates also noted the unemployment claims are falling in Cooke and Fannin counties.
