There were 15 American Indian students enrolled in Van Alstyne ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 7.1% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Van Alstyne ISD schools welcomed 2,285 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.7% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Van Alstyne ISD roughly covers schools within Grayson County and has a main office in Van Alstyne.

Among the four schools in Van Alstyne ISD schools, Van Alstyne High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of eight students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
