Patrick Steil, a parent from Denton, expressed his support for school choice, stating that "competition will always improve the education system." Steil provided his statement to the Grayson Times on February 21.

"Competition will always improve the education system," said Steil, Parent from Denton TX.

According to the Texas Tribune, Senate Bill 2 is a school choice bill proposing financial assistance for families seeking private education options. The bill suggests that eligible families can receive up to $10,000 per student annually to cover tuition fees for private schools. This initiative aims to make private schooling more accessible for families who might otherwise be unable to afford it, thus allowing children access to potentially higher-quality education that better suits their needs than local public schools.

Texas Senate News reports that Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) empower parents by providing them with the ability to choose the educational path best suited for their child’s needs. By directing public funds allocated for their child's education towards private schools, charter schools, or homeschooling, families gain more control over their children's learning environment. This flexibility ensures parents are not restricted to neighborhood public schools but can select institutions aligning with their child's unique learning style and interests.

The long-term benefits of school choice include encouraging innovation within educational institutions, according to Texas Senate News. By enabling families to choose schools through ESAs, competition is fostered among public, private, and charter institutions. Schools are incentivized to innovate and enhance their educational offerings—whether through new teaching methods or specialized programs—to attract students.

Texas Senate News also highlights that school choice introduces competition among educational institutions, prompting all schools to improve their offerings. As funding follows the student, schools must deliver better value and outcomes to retain enrollment. This dynamic benefits families by ensuring continuous improvement in curricula and teaching methods across all types of schools in the state.

Rep. Shelley Luther is identified as a Republican member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 62 by the Texas legislature site.
