City of Leonard issued the following announcement on May 12.
I wanted to share some updated information with you regarding our plans for our Class of 2020 Graduation. Within the last couple of days, the Texas Education Agency has provided school districts with graduation options that their statewide task force committee developed for schools to follow. As I have shared with you over the last couple of weeks, our goal has been to host an in-person graduation ceremony for our LHS seniors as close to our original date as possible. With the new TEA guidelines, in-person graduations for counties with five or more cases of COVID-19, cannot occur before May 29 - which includes Fannin County. Therefore, we will be celebrating our LHS in-person graduation ceremony on Friday, May 29 at 7:30pm at Tiger Stadium. In case of inclement weather that would delay the ceremony, the standby date will be Saturday, May 30 at 10:00am at Tiger Stadium. No indoor graduation ceremonies are allowed at this time. Please understand that these dates could be affected if there is an outbreak of COVID-19 cases in our area which could deem local or state officials or the governor to alter or cancel in-person events.
We are excited to be able to honor our seniors during this momentous occasion. However, there will be strict health and safety guidelines that are required for this ceremony to occur. More details will be provided to our families within the week regarding what these requirements will be, as well as the number of tickets allowed per graduate. LISD will also be providing a live stream of our graduation event that can be viewed online with more information coming soon. Again, we are thrilled to be able to have this opportunity to share this time with our graduates and families. We ask for your continued support as we all recognize the importance of the health and safety of our graduates, staff, guests and community.
In closing, while we will not be able to host our annual graduation practice prior to the ceremony due to rehearsal restrictions this year, we do want to remind our seniors about the graduation dress attire that has been shared with them for this occasion. Congratulations to our LHS Class of 2020! We are looking forward to seeing you very soon!
