The City of Gainesville has modernized its public alert warning system to IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert Warning System). IPAWS is a FEMA framework that unifies the United States' Emergency Alert System, National Warning System, Wireless Emergency Alerts, and NOAA Weather Radio under one single platform. It was recommended following the lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina. The IPAWS criteria and more information is available at the link below.
You do not need to be signed up to receive IPAWS alerts, however, you DO need to sign up to receive CODE RED alerts, which may not meet the highest level criteria for IPAWS. If you have not signed up for Code Red, please do at the link below to ensure you quickly receive ALL life-saving emergency notifications, as well as non-emergency notifications and weather notifications for yourself and your family.
