LEONARD INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL: Back-to-School Plan

Backtoschool

Leonard Intermediate School issued the following announcement on July 21.

I hope you are enjoying the remaining days of summer. I would like to thank you for participating in our recent Return-to-School Survey. Leonard ISD received 698 parent and staff responses which are being used to help us finalize our LISD Back-to-School Plan. As you likely know, we have waited most of the summer for guidance from state officials that would help our team develop a return plan based on sound decisions that are best for our students and staff in Leonard ISD. While some of this guidance has continued to change over the last few weeks, our LISD plan will be released on Tuesday, July 28 via School Messenger e-mail and posted on the Leonard ISD website.

In this document, you will find answers to many questions you have regarding the 2020-21 school year. However, please note that this situation is on-going and could change even after we have released our guidance depending on any local or state orders. Presently, Leonard ISD plans to open campuses for the 2020-2021 school year on Monday, August 17th. Our Back-to-School Plan outlines the options for learning in Leonard ISD for the upcoming school year. Students will have the option for in-person learning at school or through remote learning from home which will be online through virtual platforms. Students and parents choosing remote learning should note that requirements will be more rigorous than the at-home learning model this past spring. However, LISD will support your child through all phases of his or her education regardless of the method you choose. More information can be found in our plan being released next week.

Leonard ISD will continue to do all we can to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students and staff, while working through the challenges of the pandemic. Please understand that some of the recommended guidelines such as social distancing at six feet apart throughout the day in classrooms and on school buses may not be possible due to space limitations, yet we will work to implement strategies to address these concerns as much as possible in these and all areas on our campuses. Also, LISD will be following any current Governor’s Orders in place at the time school starts. Our goal is to provide our students, staff and families with a plan that will facilitate a smooth transition back-to-school for everyone.

On Friday, July 31, parents should expect an e-mail via our School Messenger system (link will also be posted to our Leonard ISD website) asking for your decision as to whether you plan to have your child attend school in-person or through remote learning to begin the school year. The deadline to return this questionnaire via e-mail will be Friday, August 7. This will allow our campuses time to make any adjustments to our learning models based on the number participating in each option prior to the first week of school. Those needing a hard copy of the questionnaire may request one from your child’s campus office beginning on Monday, August 3.

As we continue our plans for the 2020-2021 school year, please know that our number one priority is the health and safety of our students and staff. While these are unprecedented times for all of us, we appreciate your support in helping us provide the best learning opportunities for our students.
